Christian
Outreach "To prepare God's people for
works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up"
Ephesians 4:12
Christian
Outreach is the heart of CMA and all our programs flow from this motivation. This
involves
Pastoral Training, Evangelism Training and Campaigns, Church Planting Seminars, Church
Construction, Mission Support, Bible Distribution, Film Ministries, Tape Ministries, and
much more.
Our ministry equips the local family of
believers with
the tools they need to effectively study, evangelize and minister to their
own people. Many believers do not own even a single Bible. Churches often have one or two Bibles to be shared between the
pastor, lay leaders, and congregation. Bibles, devotional materials for the youth,
hymnbooks, and study aids greatly enhanced ministry- especially in the rural area.
Read about how
we distribute tens of thousands of Bibles each year.....
Traveling in the rural
areas is difficult at best! Homes are often miles apart and the roads are either narrow,
winding, steep, muddy, hot, dangerous- or any combination of the above! Our teams
regularly travel to extremely rural and hard to reach areas, and to many unreached areas
of East Africa.
These
men who are Pastors and evangelists, have just
been presented with bicycles. The gift of a bicycle often represents the
answer to many prayers. Homes are widely dispersed along the African
countryside, and it can very easily take a full day to reach just one home.
A simple transportation tool such as a bicycle can enable pastors and
evangelists to reach several homes in the same amount of time. A bicycle is
just one of the tools CMA helps to provide for local pastors, missionaries,
and evangelists.
We conduct several seminars throughout the year- taking the training to where
its
needed most- the rural and unreached areas. Seminars offer courses on prayer,
the Christian life, Bible study methods, time management, and many other topics.
Men and women who sat back and did nothing in the Church
are now preaching, teaching, and conducting Bible studies in the Church and their own
families. Weve seen Churches strengthened, new Churches planted, families
growing stronger together, and new ministries started as a direct result of
these seminars.
The
evangelistic outreach,
while coordinated by our staff, is actually carried out by the lay leaders
trained in our Seminars. These individuals go to the un-reached (or
minimally reached) areas. It is a cross-cultural experience for them as they
leave their tribal group. On foot, they walk to each homestead bringing the
Gospel--not an easy task as homes are well dispersed. They come back with
exciting reports and full of joy at the opportunities God afforded .
Young
people are always searching. The revival taking place in Africa is coming
primarily through the youth who have found what theyve been searching for- a
future and a hope through Jesus Christ. To provide a place for them to get
support and encouragement from their peers is essential. The gratitude they show
is touching, and they are taking the initiative to start study groups and to
evangelize their communities. Youth camp gives them an opportunity to relax in
the atmosphere of Christian fellowship and fun! Counseling, teaching, singing,
games, literature distributions, and our film ministry makes these camps
exciting and well attended in the rural areas where they are conducted. Last
year, we had over 1,800 young people attend Vacation Bible School in three hard to reach rural
areas. We
train VBS teachers, use materials produced locally and geared for the rural
child, and provide sports and crafts equipment. The road to the VBS centers
isnt easy, but its worth it! We have been presented with requests to
expand this program into other areas in Kenya and Uganda.
Many
rural church families meet under trees or in partially constructed
buildings. This wouldnt
be so bad, if there wasnt such a thing as a "rainy season" and a "hot
season". By facilitating work teams and raising funds for building materials, we are
able to encourage these believers by helping to construct the buildings that turn into
testimonies to the community as to how God provides for his children.
Evangelism ministries are always exciting. Its amazing how God works! Through
supporting local pastors and evangelists, conducting follow-up ministries to encourage
rural Church congregations, and through programs like the film ministry, we are able to
reach thousands with the Gospel. In rural areas,
people flock to see the "moving pictures" and since story telling is such a key
tool of communication in African cultures, many come to understand the salvation message
and make commitments to Christ. Last year, we showed the Jesus Film to over
11,000 people. At least one Church and school has been started on the
exact open-air, out-of-the-way spot where the Jesus film was shown!
Many of the areas we are serving are unreached with the Gospel. Our Missionaries to the Samburu people, Charlie and
Doris
Barnett have served for many years in the extremely remote Samburu area. They
have now moved to an entirely new and unreached area
called Keno and have started a new mission there. In establishing this new
mission, Charlie had to build a new "road" over the course of a year,
in order to transport materials and supplies. In this new remote area, there is
no health care, education, communication, power supply; and until the
Barnett's were called- no one to share the Good News with these nomadic people.
If you are interested in learning more about the Barnett's work with these
Nomadic people, we have an MPEG video available. Contact USA@CMAid.org
for information on obtaining a copy.
These
pages contain a small sampling of our outreach activities, but certainly not
all.
We are planning to expand our outreach areas, and are
targeting additional youth camps, Lay Leader Training Seminars, family-life
seminars, Bible study seminars, and providing new bicycles and motorbikes to
rural pastors and evangelists in an effort to aid them in their rural travels.
There are many ways you can help our Outreach efforts here.
